Classes & Instruction
The fishing program at The Wharf is a perfect experience for both the novice and the experienced fisherman. Let our Orvis-endorsed guides lead you to the back bay and coastal waters where you will reconnect with nature, and discover, or rediscover, a favorite pastime.
The Wharf offers the following classes for Armada Club Members including condominium owners, marina slip renters, and resort guests. Our staff has years of experience and a passion for the sport that they enjoy sharing with students of all ages.
Knot Tying
The Wharf 's knot-tying course will school you in the best knot tying techniques which you can apply as you fish the back-bay and inland waters. We'll teach you the most important knots you'll need to know and how to tie them quickly and confidently.
Fly Tying
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced fly fisherman, we will teach you the proper techniques for tying such flies as clousers, Lefty's Deceivers, Crazy Charlie's and others. These saltwater flies are ideal for catching speckled trout, red fish, and mackerel.
Bait Fishing
A good angler should be able to work with both live and artificial bait. In our area, there are several types of bait fish (pinfish, croakers, shrimp and menhaden) which are perfect for catching big fish. You'll learn how to hook them, catch them, and keep them alive.
Casting Course
We'll show you the best methods to improve your cast in no time at all. You'll learn the roll cast and the double haul for gaining more distance, plus other tricks of the trade. We can teach casting techniques for both fly casting, spinning or bait casting.
Fishing Techniques
This class includes lure and fly selection, an overview of the best fishing spots and how to fish in various conditions. It will also include bait presentation, seasonal tips, how to fight and land fish, and much more.
School of Fish
Designed for kids ages 6 to 12 years old. From basic baiting and instruction to identifying the various types of fish found in the area, this course will surely introduce a new generation of anglers to the sport.
