The Wharf to be Official Venue for Thunder on the Gulf

 

August 7, 2006 - Orange Beach, AL: Developer AIG Baker announces The Wharf will be the official venue for this year’s Thunder on the Gulf powerboat races, put on by the Gulf Coast Powerboat Association. This year’s events will run from Friday, August 18-Sunday, August 20.

Events at The Wharf include the dry pit display in the race village, the All-American Jam concert, and the race’s awards ceremony. The dry pits will be open to the public from 9am-9pm Friday through Sunday. Admission is $5 per day (free for children under 6) at the gate to see these boats up close, meet the drivers, visit vendors, and purchase race memorabilia and merchandise. The dry pits will be located on Main Street, next to the main entrance off Canal Road. Parking will be available at The Wharf.

The All-American Jam concert will be held at The Amphitheater at The Wharf, in addition to the Thunder on the Gulf events on Main Street. This great show featuring Marshall Tucker Band, Jefferson Starship, Atlanta Rhythm Section, and Georgia Satellites will take place on Saturday August 19th at 5:30pm. Ticket prices are $15.00/$39.50 and are available at Ticketmaster.com, The Wharf Store located on Main Street-The Wharf, or by calling the box office at (251) 224-1020.

The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, August 20 at 7:00pm at The Amphitheater at The Wharf. This will be open to the public for $5 admission.

Throughout the weekend, visitors to The Wharf can also spend time shopping or dining in some of the area’s top newly-opened boutiques and restaurants including: Be-jeweled, Johnny Rockets, Little Things, Shades, Bungalows, Sugar Shack, Ooh La La, The Bag Lady, Papa’s Pizza, Tickled Pink, Go Fish Clothing & Jewelry Co., Pensacola Blues, The Wharf Store, H20, Dippin’ Dots, Regards from the Beach, Blue Girl Beading Co., Rafters Sports Bar, Ginny Lane Bar & Grill, and Frontera Mexican Grill.
